Engraved vignette on title & one folding engraved handcolored plate. 3 p.l, xii, 333, [1] pp. 8vo, cont. half-calf & marbled boards, flat spine gilt, crest of Edward Rudge on spine in gilt, green leather lettering piece on spine. Göttingen: Widow of A. Vandenhoeck, 1770. First edition. The author's dissertation of 1769 had the same title but comprised only 35 pages. This is a detailed catalogue of the cryptogams found in the area surrounding Göttingen. For each cryptogram Weis (1744-1826), has provided botanical references (including Linnaeus) and careful descriptions of each plant's botanical characteristics. Fine copy. This copy belonged to Edward Rudge (1763-1846), botanist and antiquary, who was the author of several botanical works (see D.N.B.). Pritzel 10146.
