WELL, Johann Jakob von.
Methodische Eintheilung mineralischer Körper. Zum Gebrauche seiner Vorlesungen.
Four engraved plates depicting chemical symbols. 375, [1] pp. 8vo, cont. paper-backed blue boards (slight dampstaining, some foxing). Vienna: R. Gräffer, 1786. First edition of this very uncommon book. Well (1725-87), a physician and apothecary, was the first professor of natural history at the University of Vienna. He wrote several interesting chemistry books in which he supported Black's theory of causticity and fixed air (see Cole). Well also formed a collection of natural history objects. In the present work, Well presents his own mineralogical arrangement. Very good copy. Poggendorff, II, 1292.
