Engraved frontis. giving two views & the floor plan of the observatory at Gotha. 4 p.l., 195, ccl pp. Large 4to, orig. boards (spine perished), entirely uncut. Gotha: C.G. Ettinger, 1792. First edition. Zach (1754-1832), came from a noble and distinguished family in Hungary and Czechoslovakia. In 1786 he was appointed head of the observatory which Duke Ernst II of Gotha-Altenburg erected near Gotha. This work, considered to be one of the author's most important works, contains Zach's notable observations and tables made at the observatory. Fine copy preserved in a drop-back cloth box with a blue morocco lettering piece on spine. D.S.B., XIV, pp. 582-83.
