Prev. owner's sig. on front free endpaper, red cloth, gilt spine title rubbed off ( probably manufacturing problem as author, spine crest and publisher name still intact and bright), else very good, clean copy; Vol. 3: pp. xliv, 477, xv. Illus., 2 maps (1 folding), bottom corners very lightly bumped, else near fine; Vol. 4: pp. lx x ii, 550, xix, frontis. Fine, bright copy; Vol. 5: pp. liii, 520, xxiv. Fine, bright copy. Perkins was a New Englander who settled in Liverpool, Nova Scotia in 1762. He became a prominent merchant, member of the House of Assembly and judge of prob at es. The diary begins with the early days of settlement in Nova Scotia, contacts with New England, West Indies, and Europe. It shows how the effects of the American Revolution on the colony drove its people in self-defence to engage in privateerin g w hich they were to continue later for profit. TPL 4761.
