With a Biographical Notice of the Discoverer and Explorer, who was Killed and Eaten by Savages.') Octavo (23.5 cm x 16.5 cm), pp. xii (includes publ. advert), 184, [1] - errata, illustrated with 7 black & white plates (including 3 maps). Beautifully rebound some time ago in half dark brown morocco and marbled boards, gilt-titling on red leather spine label, top-edge gilt, others deckled. Near fine, tight, clean copy. Howes B1063. Etienne Brule, French explorer, arrived in the New World with Samuel de Champlain who sent him into the wilderness to learn about the native indians. Brule lived among the Huron Indians adopting their ways and became an interpreter and pathfinder.
