Toronto/Montreal: The Canada History Company, 1906. First Edition. De Luxe Edition Number 23 [of approx. 372 copies] Quarto (28 cm x 20.5 cm), pp. x, [3] - 692. Black & white photographic portrait plates, with tissue guards, throughout. Original blind-stamped, full burgundy morocco, gilt spine titles, all-edges-gilt, marbled endpapers. Covers scuffed, spine faded to a tan colour, else very good, clean, crisp copy. Peel states that although the edition is described as deluxe, there is no evidence of another edition. 'The first part deals with the history of Manitoba, with particular emphasis on the various immigrant groups which have contributed to the growth of the province. The "Biographies" section (pages [309]-672) describes the lives of some Manitoba notables, among whom Bryce includes himself. There are portraits of some of these notables throughout tje work. According to the preface: "To tell the story of Manitoba, and to give examples both by portrait and description of the men who are building up the new province is the object of this book."
