Leacock, Stephen

Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town

London: John Lane The Bodley Head; New York: John Lane Company; Toronto: Bell and Cockburn 1912, Hard Cover Inscribed by the Author First Canadian edition from the English sheets, with the Bell and Cockburn imprint at base of spine. Frontispiece by Cyrus Cuneo. Author's ink inscription on front blank, "With the writer's best wishes - Sept 19, 1912." This Canadian issue was published on 20 September 1912. Consulting Carl Spadoni, he wrote: "My conjecture is that this signed copy was an author copy that Leacock sent to a friend or family member. He probably signed a number of author copies all in the same way. I've seen similar inscriptions on his books." Spine slightly darkened, 1 cm vertical tear at head of spine, slightly rubbed at tail and tips, free endpapers tanned as usual, otherwise a very good, signed copy. Spadoni A11a.2
