Kock, [Charle-]Paul de (1794-1871).

La Femme, le Marie et l'Amant.

Paris: L'Edition d'Art H. Piazza, (1929). Limited edition. Small 4to., pp. 352, illustrated from the colour lithographs of Ferdinand Fargeot. Paperwraps, with glassine overwrap. Lacks Suite en Noir. Glassine frayed and stained, torn away at top of the front cover, otherwise a fine, clean copy. The Oxfor d C ompanion to French Literature sums up de Kock's style as follows: "..rollicking, risky, or more often frankly coarse, frequently sentimental, and fundamentally good-natured novels. They were read and enjoyed in England (by Macaulay and Elizabeth B a r rett Browning among others); and at a time when Balzac and G. Sand were exciting interest in France they were more representative of contemporary French fiction for the average English reader than the works of these authors."
