Hargrave, 1798-1865, entered the service of the Hudson's Bay Company in 1821 as a clerk, he was chief trader in 1833, and chief factor in 1844; most of his service was spent at York Factory. Fortunately, most of his correspondence was preserved by the family. "A collection of letters from Hudson's Bay Company men, written from all parts of the company's territory, and mostly addressed to Hargrave, stationed at York Factory." Peel 106
