Small 4to., pp. ix, [11]-160, numerous vignettes and full-page engraved plates, red bevelled cloth, with ornate black and gilt front cover and spine, back cover blind stamped, a.e.g. Presentation label from Bishop Strachan School [Toronto] on front pastedown. Fraying at extremities with minor stains, offsetting from a preserved leaf on Preface and facing page, else very nice copy. The type of book characterised by the publisher in a contemporary advert. as suitable for "Presents, School Prizes or Rewards" (see Goldman, p. 67). Contains many lovely plates, most unattributed, one by John Lawson (p. 74), most engraved by Robert Paterson.
