SOCIOLOGY OF NATIONALISM : Tomorrow's Ancestors

Florence, Kentucky, U.S.A.: Routledge 1998, 1st Edition No Jacket Hardcover Very Good "In recent years nationalism has emerged as one of the dominant issues of our time. In this lucid and balanced account, David McCrone lays out the key issues and debates around a subject which is too often obscured by polemic. Among topics covered are: classical and contemporary theories of nationalism nationalism and ethnicity nationalism and the construction of history nationalism and the nation state colonial and post-colonial nationalisms neo-nationalism and post communist nationalism. Throughout, The Sociology of Nationalism breaks new ground by showing how by operating as a vehicle for varied social and economic interests, nationalism constitutes a social movement which cannot be categorised simply as an ideology of the left or right.
