Perhaps Artzybasheff's most famous and acclaimed book, this Russian tale is beautifully printed and illustrated with full and partial page color illustrations throughout. Bader (p. 192-6) calls it a "delicately beautiful big book and a narrative spectacle and there is nothing really like it."(p.196). Winner of 1st CALDECOTT HONOR.
