[Paris: 1747]. First Editions of these two fine fête books which are often found bound together. They commemorate the two marriages of the Dauphin, son of Louis XV, first to Maria Theresa of Spain [1726-1746], daughter of Philip V and Elizabeth Farnese, in 1745 (she died in childbirth the following year), and secondly to Marie Josèphe of Saxony, in 1747. Louis's second union produced three sons who became kings, Louis XVI, Louis XVIII, and Charles X. "Très beau livre de fêtes auquel les grandes compositions de Ch. Nic. Cochin si habilement composées, donnent de l'intérêt, et où le travail de gravure de Cochin père et Cochin fils se trouve mêlé, le fils ayant généralement exécuté les eaux-fortes que terminait son père." (Cohen-De Ricci, of the first work) In this copy of the first title none of the plates except the frontispiece indicate the artists or engravers.
