Fête Publique Donnée Par La Ville De Paris, à l'occasion du Mariage De Monseigneur Le Dauphin, Le 13 Février M.DCCXLVII. large folio. 12 double-sided engraved plates of text within decorative borders (incl. title after a design by François Blondel), engraved allegorical frontis. by Jean-Jacques Flipart after after Michel-Ange Stodtz; & 7 double-page engraved plates of chariots & festivities by Marvye, N.Le Mire, P.F.Tardieu, & A.Benoist. [Paris: 1747]. First Editions of these two fine fête books which are often found bound together. They commemorate the two marriages of the Dauphin, son of Louis XV, first to Maria Theresa of Spain [1726-1746], daughter of Philip V and Elizabeth Farnese, in 1745 (she died in childbirth the following year), and secondly to Marie Josèphe of Saxony, in 1747. Louis's second union produced three sons who became kings, Louis XVI, Louis XVIII, and Charles X. "Très beau livre de fêtes auquel les grandes compositions de Ch. Nic. Cochin si habilement composées, donnent de l'intérêt, et où le travail de gravure de Cochin père et Cochin fils se trouve mêlé, le fils ayant généralement exécuté les eaux-fortes que terminait son père." (Cohen-De Ricci, of the first work) In this copy of the first title none of the plates except the frontispiece indicate the artists or engravers. The engravings in the two works depict buildings, festivities, elaborately decorated horse-drawn chariots, &c. Berlin Kat. 3016-17. Cohen-de Ricci 392-94. Hiler p. 312. Lipperheide 2716-17.
