New York Harper 1852 First Edition 495 pages. BAL 13666. Original green cloth with just a touch of wear and an old and neat removal of a label from the spine. Front orchid endpaper lacking. Removal of labels from both pastedowns. Moderate foxing. Published a year after MOBY DICK, this much different novel with incest as its subject was a commercial failure. A Good copy of a scarce book, of which only 110 of 604 unsold copies, and the majority were unsold, escaped destruction in the Harper's warehouse fire of 1853.
