Octavo, contemporary three-quarter green levant morocco gilt, spines and front covers decorated in gilt with rose motif, raised bands, marbled boards and endpapers, top edges gilt, uncut and partially unopened. $4200. The "Wakefield Edition" of Goldsmith's works, number 42 of only 500 sets produced, each volume with frontispiece (most signed by the artist) and numerous full-page illustrations on Japan vellum. This set collects all of Goldsmith's works, including his renowned novel The Vicar of Wakefield, his drama She Stoops to Conquer, and his long poem "The Deserted Village." Title pages printed in red and black, additional title pages in four colors on Japan. Spines evenly toned. Fine condition, a most handsome illustrated set.
