D. Van Nostrand New York 1863 Second edition. Rebound in green cloth with gilt lettering, and papernameplate glued to front cover. Many plates and text illustrations. Binder's repairs to several hinges. Stain on lower outer margin on first 20 pages; and light foxing on most pages. Owner's stamp of John Taylor Arms, Ensign, on front free endpaper and title page. Arms, a prominent American etcher, served as an ensign on convoy duty in WWI and as civilian artist etching plates of US naval vessels in WWII. His name is also stamped in gold on front cover, which also has his paper name label.
