Published by Samuel Wood & Sons New York 1830 1st of this edition. Old full rubbed calf, some worn spots, but a sound set. Translated from the French, with additional notes by John W. Sterling, MD. Errata on page [xxiii] of Volume I and on page (524) of volume II. Fourteen folding lithographed plates on heavy paper; nicely printed by "Pendleton's Lithography," but moderately foxed. Library bookplates on front paste-downs (with "withdrawn" stamp) and small library blind stamp in top margin of title pages. Velpeau performed the first attempt at an operative treatment for an aneurysm, and was, according to Garrison-Morton, "the leading French surgeon of the first half of the 19th Century." Uncommon.
