Kimber & Conrad Philadelphia 1809 First American edition. Approx. 6-1/4 x 4 inches; 236 pages. Old calf covers somewhat rubbed, label gone, joints cracked and a small piece missing at foot of spine. Signature of early owner at top of title page and 2 other leaves. Pages 231-234 lacking 1/4 inch of lower margin, not affecting text. Some darkening to front and back matter, but otherwise internally clean. Frederick Christian Accum was a leader in developing practical applications of chemistry. Born in Germany the son of a converted Jewish father and a Huguenot mother, he spent much of his career in England-see the "Dictionary of Scientific Biography." Most libraries listed as holding this title actually hold a microform version of it.
