BARROW, Fanny.

THE WIFE'S STRATAGEM; a story for the fireside & wayside.

NY: Appleton, 1862. "Copyright by Fanny Barrow" on verso of t.p.: i.e., Mrs Frances E. (Meade) BARROW. 1st edn. Wright II-227. Illus. Orig cloth, marginal staining on pp31-75. (A frame tale: ruined by the Civil War, the husband takes to drink. His wife arranges that a group of friends will assemble each evening & tell a story & thus distract hubby from his rum toddies. The loosely -connected stories are quite far-fetched: a young girl's health is ruined by wearing tight corsets; duels, &c, &c.)
