This collection is firmly indicative of the talent laying beneath so much of the controversy that Harris generated throughout his career. Widely remembered as the victim of the Ern Malley affair, Max Harris should be celebrated as one of our foremost lyric poets. Harris was a central figure in the development of Modernism in Australia and became a member of the Heide Movement in Melbourne.
