GOURBILLON, Joseph Antoine de
Voyage Critique à l'Etna en 1819.
P. Mougie l'aîné Paris, 1820. Two volumes, octavo, frontispiece map and plate; an attractive set incontemporary French marbled calf, some rubbing to binding, lower joint of volume 2 cracked but holding, and lower board of this volume severely bumped with some minor damage affecting the extreme outer margins of text leaves. First edition of Gourbillon's work which later appeared in a one-volume English edition as Travels to Sicily and to Mt Etna in 1819.
Gourbillon had been secretary of the cabinet of Marie-Antoinette prior to the French Revolution. His travelogue of Southern Italy and Sicily includes descriptions of Vesuvius, Herculaneum and Pompeii, Paestum, Palermo, the Temple of Segeste, Port of Messina, Mount Etna, the Fountain of Arethusa, Neapolis, and the Temple of Hercules.

All items are guaranteed as described. If an item is not as described, it is returnable within seven days of receipt, unless other arrangements are made. Full refunds are given only when items are received in the same condition in which they were sent.
