DELESSERT, Eugène

Voyages dans les Deux Océans...

A. Franck, Paris, 1848. Large octavo, with 16 plates, four maps (two folding), and numerous illustrations in the text; a few spots but a very good copy in original green quarter morocco. First edition: 'an important French illustrated book. Most of the main ports of the Orient and Polynesia, as well as Australia, were visited and reported upon by this observant traveler. This appears to be the only edition of this title...' (Hill). Delessert's book is richly illustrated with engravings of native fauna, Aborigines and Sydney views. 'During his sojourn in New South Wales the author took great interest in sport. He recounts his experiences and observations...' (Ferguson).
Borba de Moraes, 253; Hill, 465; NZNB, 1578; O'Reilly-Reitman, 1013.
