Lith. Art. Anstalt Stockholm, 1872. Quarto, with 17 images on 12 tinted or chromolithograph plates;a little browned throughout, small snag to spine but a fine copy in the original cloth. A rare and finely-illustrated voyage account, by a young Swedish lieutenant who sailed on the English frigate Zealous to the Pacific in 1867. There are long descriptions of various South American stops, followed by sections on California - particularly San Francisco - and British Columbia, and lengthy descriptions well illustrated on the Pacific Islands, including both Hawaii and Tahiti. Unusually, Ekelof provides both the music and words to an Hawaiian Folk Hymn and a Tahitian National Melody.
There were evidently at least two states of the binding as we have also handled a copy recently in an original binding of printed boards.
