Nineteenth-century Artist's Sketchbook of Australian scenes.
various places, Australia, 1869. Oblong quarto, 24 pages; slightly loose in original half calf sketchbook binding. An attractive sketchbook containing thirteen pencil drawings and watercolours identified and dated between August and October 1869, mostly double-page. The artist is not known, but the competency of the work suggests a trained hand, and the subjects chosen suggest a visitor arriving via Bass Strait, as the first two watercolours are coastal profiles of "Rocks and Islands as seen in Basses Straits Aug 8th".
The Sydney views include charming watercolours around the Harbour foreshores, with views of Manly Beach that show no sign of habitation apart from the Steyne Hotel, the spire of a church and a cart! The traveller ventures on to the Clarence River, and the last drawing in the album is "Grafton from the opposite side October /69".A charming relic of nineteenth-century Australian travel.

All items are guaranteed as described. If an item is not as described, it is returnable within seven days of receipt, unless other arrangements are made. Full refunds are given only when items are received in the same condition in which they were sent.
