A Complete Report of the Trial of Miss Madeline Smith...
William P. Nimmo, Edinburgh, 1857. Octavo, portrait; a little dusted but a good copy in green cloth, original wrappers bound in. Second edition. Madeline Smith (1835-1928) was tried for murder by arsenic-poisoning and acquitted by the Edinburgh courts. After the highly-publicised trial she married a Dr. Tudor Hora and was urged by her family to leave for the colonies. She and her husband settled in West Australia and lived incognito. When her identity was discovered, Smith and her husband fled Perth and settled in Hotham, near Melbourne. Later she left her husband, and lived in complete seclusion. She died in Melbourne in 1893.
Not in Ferguson.
