Seine Abhandlungen waren praxisbezogen und vielfach mit didaktischer Absicht verfasst und zeigten eine deutliche Abkehr vom gestelzten Stil der Rechtsliteratur seiner Zeit. Das Kernstück seiner Rechtsphilosophie ist die Lehre, dass alles menschliche Recht veränderlich, göttliches und natürliches Recht dagegen stetig sei.
