The tale of Eveline, a sensitive young woman of Irish descent, who lives in France, is unhappy in love and dies young. The Romantic nature of the work is underlined by each of the chapters being headed with a quotation from an English poet, several from Byron. The profits from the sale of the book were intended to benefit a charity established by the Duc de Chartres. Old library label on spine. A fine copy.
