The Bentley Private Catalogue says Wigram was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge and became a barrister of Lincoln's Inn. His "Twelve Wonderful Tales Told in Rhyme" was published by Bentley in 1870. He wrote a successful legal work and in 1858 edited the 4th edition of Sir James Wigram's treatise on the admission of extrinsic evidence in the interpretation of wills. So he was an expert on the subject of this novel. Ex-library copy with stamps, bound without the half-titles in a modern binding.
