Hogg was educated at Oxford with Shelley and sent down with him over the publication of "The Necessity of Atheism." Originally intended to be published in four volumes only two volumes of his biography were produced, the result of the Shelley family reclaiming the source material. Many of Hogg's observations were later questioned by Peacock in his "Memorials of Shelley." Frontispiece. Minor nicks to head and tail of spine of volume one, otherwise a nice set. 8 pp. advertisements dated February 1858 at the beginning of volume one.
