Lindsay's life was devoted in part to the collection of a magnificent library, known as the Crawford library, which he endeavoured to make representative of the literatures of all nations. Its most celebrated possession was the Guttenberg Bible, which realized £2650 at Lindsay's sale in 1887. Covers rubbed at edges, preliminaries and last few pages damp-stained, otherwise a very good copy.
