Poems, Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect.

Edinburgh, Printed for the author. 1790. First edition. Recent half calf. pp. xxviii, [xiii] - xxviii. [28]. 365. [i]. 41. Shirrefs graduated at Marischal College in Aberdeen, in 1783, and subsequently edited the 'Aberdeen Chronicle' and the 'Caledonian Magazine.' He was described by Burns as "a little decrepid body with some abilities." After Shirrefs' move to London in 1798 nothing more is known of his life. The final 41 pages consists of a glossary of the Scottish dialect. Portrait frontispiece, half-title, subscribers' list. Some foxing, a few early leaves creased, otherwise very good. Scarce.
