Liverpool, W. & J. Arnold. 1889 First edition, first issue, one of 50 large paper numbered copies signed by the publisher. Original boards, paper label. Small 4to. pp. [2], viii, 120. O'Donoghue "The Poets of Ireland" page 194; Colbeck I, page 375; see Nelson 1889.2. Some copies, according to Colbeck, lack the dedicatory poem "Nest" which is present here. The large paper issue is in a slightly bigger binding than the regular issue but otherwise identical. The title-page is in red and the first initial of each poem is rubricated. The volume was re-issued with a cancel title-page the following year by the Bodley Head (Nelson 1889.2). An early collection by an Irish poet who advocated higher education for women. In later life she became a Catholic. In 1884 she edited Browning's "Strafford." Scarce. A very good copy.
