London, Leonard Smithers. 1897 First edition, one of 400 numbered copies. Original full parchment with gilt design by Beardsley. 8vo. pp. 65. Lasner 120; Nelson 1897.10. Beardsley himself referred to his design for this book as "very pretty". Beardsley told Smithers that "O'Sullivan wants the design to be printed on both sides of the book." This was on the advice of Oscar Wilde who had declared "that nothing looks more vulgar and cheap than a book with an ornament on one side of the cover and the other side blank." Spine darkened, covers slightly dulled, otherwise a very good copy of a fragile book.
