Philadelphia, J.B. Lippincott & Co. 1880. First edition. Original tan cloth, bevelled edges. 12mo. pp. 114. Presentation copy: "Thomas Hutchinson Esq. with kind regards of Charles G.D. Robinson. Kingscroft, Windsor, Nova Scotia, Nov. 1894." On the rear endpaper is an eight-line autograph poem by Roberts titled "The Canadian Lily." Regarded as the father of modern Canadian poetry, Roberts was one of the four "Confederation" poets with Bliss Carmen, Archibald Lampman and Duncan Campbell Scott. He was raised in Nova Scotia and often drew on the beautiful landscape of his childhood in his work. "Orion and Other Poems" was his first book. Various newspaper clippings tipped in. Thomas Hutchinson's book-label. A very good copy.
