Asked by his publishers to allow a reprint of his "Essays on Song-Writing," Aikin decided that "if it were to be reprinted at all, it should be with many material alterations, corresponding to [my] own changes of taste and opinion in various points during so long an interval." The result, he considered, to be a new work rather than the republication of an old one. Neatly rebacked; a very good copy.
