GORDON (Sir Cosmo).
Life and Genius of Lord Byron.
London, Knight and Lacy. 1824. First edition. Original brown wrappers, stitched as issued. 8vo. pp.80. Wise II, p. 85; Chew p. 214. One of the earliest biographies to appear in England after Byron's death in Greece. Chew notes that "considering the haste with which it must have been composed.it is quite judicious and is not over-burdened with inaccuracies." Chew suspected that Gordon was a pseudonym. Portrait frontispiece and vignette of Newstead Abbey on the title-page. Contemporary ownership signature of Joseph Foden. Small stain to frontispiece with some off-setting, old repair to frontispiece, spine a little rubbed, otherwise a nice copy in original condition.
