[BYRONIANA.] BAXTER (F.R. Wythen).

Don Juan Junior: a Poem, by Byron's Ghost.

London, Joseph Finch and Simpkin Marshall, and Co. 1839 First edition. Contemporary half calf, marbled boards. 8vo. pp. xii, 118. Wise I, page 100; Chew pages 61-62: "This piece contains much vague, confused, rambling satire on men and manners..." However, Chew allows that "the piece is of unusual significance, for the character of the younger Juan, in its brutal, cynical faithlessness and egotism, is the nearest approach to the true Don Juan tradition that has appeared in England since Shadwell's "Libertine" and the Lovelace of Richardson." With the bookplate of the Byron collection of Gordon C.F. Hobbs. Some minor rubbing. Bound without the half-title. Cambridge, NLS and BL in COPAC; not in NUC.
