London, John Murray. 1856. First edition. Original red cloth, decorated with gilt, all edges gilt. Small 4to. pp. viii. 295. The Earl of Ellesmere was a statesman, poet and translator. This volume contains some previously published poems and a large amount of new material including several plays amingst which is 'TheTragedy of Bluebeard,' considered by the author to be the most important: "I may say it has never been acted without applause" (from the preface). 4 pp. advertisements dated January 1856. Slight foxing, covers a little marked, otherwise a fine copy.
