Spine richly gilt. Rene-Louis de Voyer Marquis de Argenson's (1696-1757) most imfortant work is his 'Memoires', covering in great details the years 1725-56. They are valuable 'materials for the history of time'. There are to important edition, the first , with some letters, not elsewherepublished, Paris 1857-58, published by his great-grand-nephew. The other, more correct, but less complete was published in Paris 1859. The author was friend of Voltaire, who had been a fellow-student of his at the Jesuit College Louis-le-Grand, and frequented the Club de l'Entreso, the history of which he wrote in his memoires.
