Müller, Andreas

Abdallæ Beidavæi historia sinensis.

Jenae, prostat apud Johannem Bielkium, 1689. 4to. vi + 72 pp. New boards. Lower margins slightly waterstained. Lacks two dedication leaves and the Persian text (56 pp.). Originally published in 1677 this is the second edition, published by Andreas Müller’s son Abraham Müller. A third edition appeared in 1695. According to George Sarton, Müller mistakenly attributed to Abdallæ Baidäwï Abdallae Baidawi what is actually part 8 of the monumental history of the world, Ta’rïkh-i-Banäkatï Ta’rikh-i-Banakati (1317), by the Persian historian and poet, Banäkatï Banakati (see George Sarton, History of Science, 3 (1947), pp. 976–7 & p. 731).
“This section of Banäkatï’s Banakati’s history dealt with China and it was to Müller’s credit that he edited in Persian and translated into Latin this text which included an important account of Chinese printing” (D. E. Mungello, Curious Land (1989), p. 229).
