London, printed for T. Egerton, 1811. 8vo. vi + 116 pp. + 1 folding engraved plan of the towndefences of St. Denis. Original full cloth, rebacked preserving most of the original spine, somewhat foxed and browned. During the Napoleonic wars Bourbon (Réunion) in the South Indian Ocean, like Mauritius, served the French corsairs as a rallying place from which attacks on Indian merchants could be directed. In 1809 the British attacked the island, and the French were forced to capitulate on July 8, 1810. The island remained in the possession of Great Britain until April 1815, when it was restored to France.
