Title-leaf with engraved vignette + iv pp. (dedication leaf + one leaf “Lectori benevolo”) + 64 pp. + ii pp. (dedication leaf) + pp. 65–86 + ii pp. (dedication leaf) + pp. 87–104 + ii pp. (“Conspectus tabularum”); + ii pp. (dedication leaf) + 22 pp. + 30 hand-coloured engraved plates numbered i–xxx + one uncoloured engraved plate numbered xiii B (not listed in the index of plates). Contemporary half calf, marbled boards, joints cracked.
All printed pink wrappers bound in. They are important as they give date of publication (vol. 2, fasc. 1, which is dated 1794 with a question mark by Stafleu & Cowan, was in fact issued in 1791) and one (back wrapper to vol. 1, fasc. 2) addenda et emendanda. The complete work consists of three volumes with 73 plates, issued in 12 fascicles. The title-leaf to volume two, which was issued with part four of that volume, not present.
An important work on lichens with finely engraved and coloured plates; the plates in the present fascicles after drawings by the author and Sturm, jun. Stafleu & Cowan 2886 (not recording plate XIII B).
