It is present in this copy, as well as the original preliminary fold, which was meant to be cancelled by the subscriber. This first Swedish scientific journal, written by Emanuel Swedenborg, and published at his own expense, is mainly devoted to Christopher Polhem’s mechanical inventions, but contains also descriptions of inventions by Swedenborg himself, i.a. “Utkast til en machine at flyga i wädret” [An outline of a machine to fly in the air] (on pp. 80–83).
In the fall of 1710 Swedenborg traveled to England, where he stayed until 1713, mostly in London. During this time he was captivated by what he learned of science. He read Newton. He met Flamsteed, Halley, and John Woodward. He considered the universe to be a problem in mathematics, and he tried to realize grandiose technical inventions, among them flying machines and submarines. Returned to Sweden he was appointed extraordinary assessor on the Board of Mines. In this capacity he worked with Christopher Polhem, whom he admired greatly and assisted in far-reaching technical and industrial projects (Sten Lindroth).
Together with a facsimile edition, published at Uppsala in 1910. Hyde 58–63 (with list of contents). DSB, 13, pp. 178–79.
