Hartford, CT N. Patten 1788, Jean Ostervald (also spelled Osterwald) studied in Geneva under Louis Tronchin and then joined Turretin and Werenfelts to form the "helvetische Triumvirat". Karl Barth said he was a "church man of large style". This work was published after his death by his adoring students. He worked with Bible translation, interpretation and liturgical studies. List of subscribers included Zebulon Pike; Isaiah Thomas (the latter ordered 40 copies), Robert Foulis, the printer, thought highly of his work and recommended it. 406p. Bound in contemporary calf wtih a moroco label, it contains the errata but lacks the front end paper. It is also listed in Early American Imprints as no. 21351. An uncommon book.

The owner, Richard Murian, has a BA in History from the University of California Davis; a MLS from the University of California, Berkeley; a Masters of Divinity from Trinity in Biblical Studies and a MA from California State University, Sacramento in the History of the American West. My further graduate studies were in Renaissance and Reformation studies with an emphasis on Italian humanism. My bookselling career began in 1970 under my own name but chose the name Alcuin Books in 1979 a name that has reflected my interest and philosophy. I have had open stores in Phoenix and since 2003 we have been in Scottsdale, Arizona.
