BRENTANO, Franz.

Von der mannigfachen Bedeutung des Seienden nach Aristoteles (On the several senses of Being in Aristotle).

Freiburg im Breisgau: Herder'sche Verlagshandlung, 1862. FIRST EDITION TP + Dedication page + V-VI = Vorwort + VII-VIII = Inhalt + [1]-220, Octavo, First Edition. Franz Brentano, the German philosopher and psychologist, was the founder of phenomenology. As Copleston notes, when tracing "the rise of phenomenology there is no need to go back beyond Franz Brentano." His "historical writings include... Von der mannigfachen..., an important work that is the source of much of Brentano's later thought" (EP, Vol. I, p. 368). This is the author's first book. Contemporary marbled boards with gilt on green label on spine. Some wear to top and bottom of spine and corners. First and last several pages foxed. Former owner's signature on front flyleaf. Overall, a very nice copy. PHOTOS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.
