HEIDEGGER, Martin.

Sein und Zeit (Being and Time).

Halle: Max Niemeyer, 1927. FIRST EDITION Half-title + TP + [VII]-XI + [1]-438 + 1 leaf, Octavo. Arguably, one of the most influential philosophical books of the 20th Century, an attempt to come to grips with the notion of Being. In Heidegger's view this was the fundamental philosophical question, but one which has been submerged beneath the jargon of western metaphysics as it drifted from its original Greek sources. The book is potent with the sense of a "new "start", a hope with which it imbued even the darkest of its existentialist dervatives. This book was issued in orginal wraps and also in publisher's binding. This copy is from the original wraps issue (no errata on the final sheet and the printer's name is given on the verso of the last leaf) but has been trimmed and rebound in a contemporary binding. From the library of E. Salin with his name and the date (1927) inscribed on the half title. Marbled boards with blue cloth spne and gilt lettering. Very minor foxing. A lovely copy.
