Meisner, Maurice.
Li Ta-Chao and the Origins of Chinese Marxism.
Atheneum. New York. 1979. Fifth printing. Portrait frontis, xvii + 326pp, bibliography, glossary, index, upper corner lightly creased first few leaves, trifle discoloured and worn paperback copy, contents sound and clean. Li Ta-Chao (1888-1927) was Professor of History and librarian at Peking University and in 1918 was the first important intellectual to declare his support for the Russian October Revolution and announce his conversion to Marxism. He was a co-founder of the Chinese Communist party and a principal leader until his arrest and execution in 1927. This book is both a biography of Li Ta-Chao and a study of the early reception and transformation of Marxist ideas in China.
