Copper engraving, uncolored as published. The decorative and highly detailed sea chart shows detailed in the centre Emden, the mouth of the river Ems and some offshore islands Wangerode, Nordernei, Borkum, Ameland, Schiermonig Ook, etc. The map provides information on anchor places, sea-banks and many place names mostly along the coast of the North Sea. In the upper left corner we find the title cartouche with two inhabitants in rural costums. A mileage scale ornated with allegories to the sea is in the lower right corner. The map is also equipped with ships in the sea and compass roses. The Dutch firm and printing house van Keulen was one of the most important and leading publishers for sea charts during the ending 17th century. Their firm was leading in providing charts to the Dutch East India company also their charts relating to the Americas were of high importance. Most charts were highly accurate for that period and were as well nicely ornated with decorative allegoric cartouches. Amsterdam, C. Vogt 1684 (50,6 x 58cm) (Stock No.: 19750)
