Finely bound by the Bayntun-Riviere bindery in full scarlet morocco, silhouette of Alexander Pope in black leather on upper cover, spine lettered in gilt on a black leather label, hand marbled endleaves, all edges gilt. Alexander Pope was probably the most frequently portrayed person of his generation. Wimsatt's catalogue raisonné details 205 pictures, arranged in chronological order with biographical background. Sir Joshua Reynolds described the poet as "about four feet six high; very humpbacked and deformed...he had a large and very fine eye and a long handsome nose.
