Folding hand-coloured engraved map of Mid-Lothian, 2 folding plates and 9 single-page plates. First Edition. 8vo. xv, [i], 17-223, [1], 135, [4] pp. Contemporary half calf (joints cracked, spine rubbed and defective at head and foot). With the final leaf of errata and directions for placing the plates. There are two plates of a Guzerat Bull and a Mysore Cow, which had been imported into the county by Lieut.-Col. A Murray. This survey for the Board of Agriculture was originally published in Edinburgh in 1793. This 1795 edition was the first to contain the "additional remarks of several Gentlemen and Farmers in the County". These 13 appendices (covering 135pp) include observations on the Wool Society, dairy farming, the improvement of moor farms, and the cultivation of bees. George Robertson (c.1750-1832) also undertook the survey of Kincardineshire for the Board of Agriculture, and wrote extensiveley on Scottish agriculture and genealogy. Woburn Abbey bookplate.
